An Introduction to Cast Glass (Lost Wax techiques)

August 11, 2017

Learn the art of lost wax casting for Cast glass in a peaceful lake setting on the rural outskirts of Waiuku, South Auckland, New Zealand.

Here you will learn the art of lost wax casting (losing the wax from a mould), how to create objects with wax modelling/clay and to design your work for casting in glass.

You will learn how to model in wax or clay to create a piece of work, in which will be invested, steamed out (lost wax), or clay removed out of the mould.  Once the mould is cleaned of wax and clay, it is ready for the glass to be placed into a reservoir and then fired in the kiln.  A process which will take approximately 5-7 days to see your creation cast into a piece of glass art.  On the half day, the following Saturday (normally), students return to divest their moulds, clean off investment and learn some basics of 'cold working', where slurries and other coldworking tools are used and demonstrated.  This time is from 10am until 1pm.

The workshops are extremely popular and are limited to a maximum of six-course participants per workshop.

However, group discounts of 4 or more can apply and can be discussed with Susan by emailing or contacting her at waiuklakeside@gmail.com or 0274862688 for further information.
