Susan has  exhibited nationally and internationally and have held two solo exhibitions, 2005 and 2008. The 2008 exhibition was an invitation to exhibit at Tairawhiti Museum, Gisborne where I was born. Professor Jack Richards purchased my Bowl of Wealth for the Museum’s public collection in 2008.

Herwork is informed by my life as a market garden girl growing up in a predominantly small Maori community on the outskirts of Gisborne – a place called Manutuke. I still have connections with the people who reside there, and a connection with Rongowhakaata iwi.

A very latecomer to glass or artforms, I discovered the art of cast glass with Jo Nuttall at Art Station, Ponsonby; my journey in glass started here.  There after, I undertook workshops with David Reekie (UK), Richard Whiteley (Australia), Claudia Borella (Whanganui, NZ), and other workshops in clay, pottery to expand my own knowledge and learn from other object makers, glass artists.

In 2014, my vision was to bring Cast Glass to the Franklin region to introduceglass casting as an artists’ medium of expression and is held the first cast glass students’ exhibition in the Franklin region on 22 November 2014. The exhibition was held at Pollok Art Gallery in Pollok entitled “Glassy Glassics” and was an exciting time. She  actively promoted glass casting for the region by introducing the community of Franklin about cast glass by offering workshops and discussing other glass artists and their work and their influences or inspirations. and connect people to the N Z Society of Artists In Glass Inc., to which she is a practicising member.

She has been secretary and Editor of Glass News in 2004-2006, and elected president from 2006-2008.

Her studio 800 Degrees Glass moved to Greenlane, Auckland in 2020 and is able to run workshops for groups or individuals at other venues
